Bearded Head Quarter Staters: Fact or Fiction

Bearded Head quarter staters first appeared on the market in 1991, but new finds were still being declared as fake by some over a quarter of a century later. The reasons for doubting the authenticity of these coins had been unpublished and unchallenged for 30 years, so I decided to take a closer look to see if anything could be found to resolve the situation. The outcome of this work is that the Bearded Head quarter staters are now recognised as British C2; the companions to the equally enigmatic British C “Yarmouth” stater.
